Should Win: Jamie Foxx Will Win: Jamie Foxx
Leo DiCaprio was among the few that did not stand up to applaud Foxx... Perhaps he was tired. Or did he really think he deserved to win this one?
Umm let me just start by stating the obvious: Jamie Foxx wins this category!
Now, we can proceed to analyze the actual competition and see what are the chances of hell freezing over on 27th of February. Don Cheadle had a strong performance in Hotel Rwanda but the movie does not have the strength to push him as a winner of this very tough category. Johnny Depp is everyone's sweetheart in a movie that has even less support than Cheadle's though. This is particularly true as Miramax will rather focus their campaign on The Aviator on the final stretch. Eastwood was a dark horse for many to even make the final list. While he had a strong performance, his name is likely to be mentioned only as a reminder of the fact that he took Paul Giamatti's place.
DiCaprio is the only one that is left threatening Foxx's win. But even if The Aviator manages to win in all the other 10 categories in which it is nominated, it will still not generate sufficient traction to push Leo ahead of Foxx. Jamie Foxx won virtually every acting award he could win this year. He is unanimously appreciated in the media and his classy appearances only increase the aura surrounding him. He literally transformed himself into the legend that was Ray Charles, after rehearsing with Charles himself, in a movie that came out exactly in the year that Charles passed away. There is simply too much going in his favor and his win is bound to be one of the most applauded of the evening by the entire audience.
Final prediction: Jamie Foxx
