Posted on November 2, 2005 06:30 AMWhere is the nominee from AUSTRIA?
Posted by: Logan at November 30, 2005 11:04 PMUnfortunately Austria's submission Caché by Michael Haneke was disqualified by the Academy. While no official report was released regarding the reasons the movie was disqualified, I believe it is because Haneke's movie is entirely in French while the Academy rules specify that a foreign movie submission has to be in its majority in the native country language.
Four other movies were disqualified for various undisclosed reasons as well: Greece - Brides, directed by Pantelis Voulgaris; Nepal - Basain, directed by Subash Gajurel; Uruguay - Alma Mater, directed by Álvaro Buela; and Venezuela - 1888, el extraordinario viaje de la Santa Isabel, directed by Alfredo Anzola.
