Should Win: Ang Lee Could Win: Steven Spielberg Will Win: Ang Lee

This was the shortest presentation of an award, any award, ever! Tom Hanks was really in a big hurry to get to the parties I guess.

The five directors of the five Best Picture nominated movies are dueling in this competition making it very hard to shake the feeling that they are one and the same. In truth, Ang Lee should not walk away without the award and, just like in the Best Picture category, he has won all major precursor awards, and is quite frankly the most deserving.

George Clooney is the one that, in another scenario, would have a chance at producing an upset, but he will have to be content with the honor of being nominated this year. Steven Spielberg must never be ignored but this time he is as well in the position to be thankful for being nominated. Paul Haggis is a very deserving nominee but he is unlikely to win even if Crash somehow produces a major upset in Best Picture, while Bennett Miller coat-tailed on the success of his movie and rounds up the list.
