Best Supporting Actress
Current predictions:
- Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls)
- Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine)
- Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal)
- Rinko Kikuchi (Babel)
- Adriana Barraza (Babel)
This is one race where the top five are very likely to be set in stone. Not because they are miles ahead of their competition but... because there is almost no competition. This seems very strange for a supporting race.
Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls)
No doubt she will get nominated. The competition this year is such that she may even win. Talk about an American dream started on American Idol.
Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine)
Young actresses are loved by the Academy and Breslin is bound to hear her name mentioned Tuesday morning.
Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal)
If Judi Dench is in, she is in. And Judi Dench is in.
Rinko Kikuchi (Babel)
She plays a deaf girl surviving the trauma of her mother's death. Academy voters love these roles.
Adriana Barraza (Babel)
Another strong performance from Babel. The one that is easiest to notice. Unless someone else picks up surprising support out of nowhere, she will be in as well.
Catherine O'Hara (For Your Consideration)
Everyone is underlying the irony of her sharing the fate of her character - losing out on a nomination.
Emma Thompson (Stranger than Fiction)
Very little buzz for her performance. However, many have seen the movie and, with such a weak race, she may sneak in.
Vera Farmiga (The Departed)
If Departed has enormous support, she may get a nod as well. Seems highly unlikely however.
