Should Win: Alan Arkin Could Win: Alan Arkin Will Win: Eddie Murphy

I wish I had gone with my favorite here ;) but regardless it is too soon to tell if the win indicates more support for Little Miss Sunshine or it was just a recognition for the 73 years old Arkin.

The Could Win section could include Arkin/Wahlberg/Haley and even Hounsou. But then this wouldn't b much of a prediction, would it. Let's have a closer look howeveR:

Murphy won the SAG and that solidifies him as front-runner. Arkin is part of the most beloved ensemble cast of the year, is old and has a stand-out performance. The Departed fans loved Wahlberg, but for him this will probably stay as his first nomination. Hounsou gets another nod, but the african-american vote will focus on Murphy. Haley is the critics darling, but the Academy voters will be happy this time to have less controversial roles to choose from. So, in the end, we have the battle between Murphy and Arkin. If Arkin wins, then LMS wins best picture as well. He probably won't win though.
