Fahrenheit 9/11 (USA) (Miramax/Lions Gate) (2004) ***Year: 2004iMDB

Director: Michael Moore Cast: Michael Moore, George W. Bush

Michael Moore had one goal only with his latest movie: to convinces as many Americans as possible to vote against Bush in the 2004 elections. His essay is addressed more to the gut level than the intellectual level, resulting in a less focused, overall weaker movie than his previous Bowling for Columbine. He tries to expose Bush's incompetence as well as his family's business connections to the large Bin Laden family, but seems to be missing the strong punchlines of his previous movies.

Michael Moore did what he had to do in putting out this movie with significant noise about a distribution boycott by the parent producer company Disney (which indeed refused to distribute the movie, but the fact was known ever since production began). The one thing though that I cannot comprehend and left me with a profound sour taste, is how it was possible for this movie, with no other merits than propagandistic ones, to win the Grand Prize at the Cannes Festival. It is sad to see that as a festival director, Quentin Tarantino managed to rely on the strong political feelings of the jury and put propaganda in front of quality and art.
