Immortel (ad vitam) (France/Italy/UK) (2004) ****Year: 2004iMDB

Director: Enki Bilal Cast: Thomas Pollard, Thomas Kretschmann, Charlotte Rampling, Linda Hardy

A lot of people deplore the fact that this animation gem will not see US screens until 2005 at best. However, Immortel reminds distributors too much of Final Fantasy or even Ghost in the Shell II which did not succeed beyond the expected fanclub following. Financial politics aside though, Immortel is a great futuristic animation film, beautifully rendered but perhaps with a story too obscure or complex for the non-initiated movie-goer. Fans of japanese anime, of Mamoru Oshii's movies or of Philip K. Dick stories will certainly immerse themselves in the movie and love it from beginning to end.
