Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (USA) (Miramax) (2004) ****1/2Year: 2004iMDB

Director: Quentin Tarantino Cast: Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah

Quentin Tarantino managed a tour de force performance with his Kill Bill movies. A blood-filled tribute to japanese manga and samurai movies in Vol. 1, and a more subdued, character driven followup in Vol.2 add up to a great overall achievement. However, Vol.2 stands up very well as a standalone movie providing sufficient background story to make Vol. 1 look like an optional prequel for those that didn't see it. David Carradine gives an excellent performance as Bill, with monologues that will surely achieve Pulp Fiction popularity. Beatrix's (Thurman) apprenticeship with Pai Mei is another great tribute to classic martial arts movies, while Michael Madsen is perfect as the Bill's redneck brother Budd.

If you're a Pulp Fiction fan, but Kill Bill Vol.1 put you off because of its excessive, although stylized, violence, give a chance to Vol.2.
