I Heart Huckabees (USA/Germany) (Fox Searchlight) (2004) ****Year: 2004iMDB

Director: David O. Russel Cast: Jason Schwartzman, Isabelle Huppert, Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Mark Wahlberg

Have you ever considered hiring an existential detective agency? Probably not. But if you ever wonder what is the meaning of life (the universe and everything), are all things happening for a reason or is it just chance, is there a predetermined destiny, etc. Bernard (Hoffman) and Vivian (Tomlin) can start the investigation for you and show you how everything in the world is connected, but you may encounter Caterine (Huppert) who believes that the world is inherently chaotic and random. How will this understanding affect you in your daily life? Can you reach the happiness and peace that you're looking for?

I heart Huckabbes is a crazy comedy filled with absurd intellectual humor that can remind you of Robert Sheckley's or Douglas Adams' writings, and with a great cast that is obviously having a blast reciting inane philosophies (or rather mocking real philosophical schools). It is not a perfect movie, and it gets slow at times, but it is refreshing and original.
