Hitch (USA) (Columbia Pictures) (2005) ***1/2Year: 2005iMDB

Director: Andy Tennant Cast: Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James

While some consider Hitch to be Will Smith's debut in a romantic comedy, I actually have the feeling that he just returned to a ground that is perhaps his acting home. Everyone knows that he is the Fresh Prince and that he can both charm and provoke laughter. Of course, he technically never played in a romantic comedy, but did anyone actually doubt that he would be natural for the type?

Of course, like with most romantic comedies, Hitch's plot and character interactions are predictable from the first ten minutes. However, it is not for twists and unpredictability that we watch romantic comedies. Hitch works and is fun to watch because Smith has good chemistry with Eva Mendes and with King of Queens Kevin James, and is capable of being absolutely convincing as the "Date Doctor", a private consultant for those that need some help conquering the love of their lives in the Manhattan jungle, postulating that "Any good man has the chance to sweep any woman off her feet. He just needs the right broom".
