Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (USA) (Paramount/Dreamworks) (2004) ***1/2Year: 2004iMDB
Director: Brad Silberling Cast: Jim Carrey, Emily Browning, Liam Aiken, Kara/Shelby Hoffman
Lemony Snicket is a visually delightful, whimsical story that can scare and fascinate children and enchant the parents. Jim Carrey is in his element playing the various Count Olaf character impersonations, while the three Baudelaire orphans are also well acted by a talented quad (Sunny's role is actually played by twin sisters Kara and Shelby Hoffman due to age regulations in acting). Based on a series of books which have quite a strong fan base, the movie is quite different and condenses together different stories, yet is successful in capturing their mood and essence. Don't forget to watch the superb, very elaborate end credits.
