Psycho is the original slasher movie, the original crazed sexual serial murder movie, the original monstrous mother movie, the original blonde-girlie who commits a sin must be punished movie... there's so much going for it! All kidding aside, it's not a perfect movie and arguably not even one of Hitchcock's best, but the unforgettable shower scene alone makes it a must-see horror classic. Countless movies that have followed, from Silence Of The Lambs to Friday the 13th and more, are derivative in some way from Psycho.
