Transamerica (USA) (Weinstein) (2005) ***Year: 2005iMDB
Director: Duncan Tucker Cast: Felicity Huffman, Kevin Zegers
Transamerica showcases a great performance by Felicity Huffman as Stanley "Bree", a man turning into a transsexual woman who finds out only a week before her gender transformation operation that he/she is a... father.
While Huffman's performance is extremely convincing (without any trace of her Desperate Housewives Lynette), the movie is a fairly typical coming-together, parent/son road-trip movie despite the transsexual twist. There are no surprises about the way the relationship between Bree and his/her son evolves, including the son's reluctance to accept any guidance at first, then his shock at the discovery that Bree is not only a man, but actually his father, then Bree's parents who don't easily accept their son's transformation.
While everything is played out with the right tone and without excesses, the story's predictability makes it ultimately quite forgettable.
