Set in 1960s Norway, Kitchen Stories is about a researcher who is assigned to observe the movements of a rather cantankerous old man in his kitchen, as part of a "social experiment". While he is supposed to be totally impartial, he gradually develops a friendship with the man, which rather complicates things.
I was totally surprised at how charming this movie was. It is a story of friendship, loneliness and what makes life worth living. I guess you could say that it's about love ultimately, though not in the regular Hollywood ways. It is a very quiet film, though there are several genuinely laugh out loud funny scenes. If you like Steven Siegal movies this will probably put you to sleep, but if you are up for a Norwegian/Swedish language that unfolds slowly yet ultimately leaves you feeling very satisfied, don't miss this one.
