2005 Cannes Festival Winners May 23, 2005

The 2005 Cannes Film Festival is over and jury president Emir Kusturica announced the winners. The coveted Palme D'Or went to L'Enfant (The Child) by Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers won the Grand Prix, while Shanghai Dreams by Wang Xiaoshuai won the Jury Prize.
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada won the award for Best Screenplay as well as Best Actor for Tommy Lee Jones who also directed the movie. Best Director award went to Michael Haneke for Cache (Hidden). Hanna Laslo won the Best Actress award in Amos Gitai's movie Free Zone.
The Un Certain Regard award went to the Romanian movie Moartea Domnului Lazarescu (The Death of Mr. Lazarescu) by Cristi Puiu.
